Suicide can affect any of us at any time. We can be at greater risk at different points in our lives. Sometimes big changes in our lives, such as becoming an adult, retiring, or losing someone we love, can be overwhelming and increase our risk.
Some populations are more vulnerable. Suicide can increase the risk that surviving family and other loved ones, will die by suicide. Experiencing discrimination because of our ethnicity or sexuality can also cause psychological distress and increase risk.
